He Puaawai Young Parents’ Centre is a school for pregnant or teenage parents who wish to complete their high school education in a safe, supportive and welcoming space. Our team is passionate about supporting our community to thrive as learners and parents. We currently have a roll capacity of 30.

He Puaawai is looking for a new cook for the 2026 school year. The role comprises 20 hours per week. For the right candidate, there is flexibility as to how these hours are distributed across the week.

The successful applicant will have the ability to build strong relationships with a range of people, be flexible and open to feedback, and have strong collaborative skills. He Puaawai is a busy work environment and we are seeking someone who is confident, diligent and demonstrates initiative.

  • Confident cooking for large groups of people on a daily basis

  • Collaborate with He Puaawai HOF & 2IC to develop and organise menus, in accordance with MoE guidelines

  • Maintaining a clean and tidy workspace 

  • Preparing freezer meals/ advance planning on a termly basis

  • Responsible for weekly food shopping for He Puaawai

  • Responsible for managing budget effectively

  • Impeccable organisational skills

  • Liaise with Ka Ora, Ka Ako team around effective practices

  • Contribute to a collegial working environment in a positive way

  • Responsible for the Health & Safety Plan for the He Puaawai kitchen


The successful applicant must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa and undergo a police vetting check prior to starting this position.
