Counsellor

Applications close: 1 week from now - 13/02/2026.

We are seeking an experienced, student‑centred School Counsellor to join our wellbeing team and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment. This is a vital role that places student safety and wellbeing at the heart of practice, supporting young people as they navigate the social, emotional, and developmental challenges that influence learning and engagement.

The School Counsellor provides high‑quality, ethically grounded counselling, responding to a wide range of needs from everyday stressors through to high‑risk and complex situations. A key focus of the role is the ability to exercise sound clinical judgement, particularly when assessing and responding to concerns such as self‑harm, suicidal ideation, abuse/neglect, or other safeguarding risks. You will work closely with senior leaders and confidently engage with external agencies including Oranga Tamariki, Police, and mental health services to ensure coordinated and timely responses.

You will be part of a collaborative pastoral and wellbeing team, contributing specialist expertise while building strong relationships with staff to support early identification of concerns. Cultural responsiveness is essential, and we seek someone who can work respectfully and effectively with diverse students and whānau. Capability in te reo Māori and tikanga, or a commitment to ongoing development, is highly valued.

We are looking for a counsellor who brings warmth, integrity, and a belief in the potential of young people. You will be steady under pressure, adaptable in a busy school environment, and committed to maintaining high standards of professional practice.

Applicants must hold full NZAC membership and have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.

Start date will be negotiated.

Applications close on Friday 13th February 2026 at 12pm.
